Widespread rain lashes north west region

Chandigarh, Aug 31 (UNI) Widespread rain lashed many areas in north-west India as monsoon remained active in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

Moderate rain pounded several areas in Punjab with Ludhiana recording 18.8 mm rainfall overnight, followed by Balachour measuring 9.4 mm, Nangal Dam site 6.2 mm and Patiala 3.2 mm. Patiala was also lashed by rain during the day.

Several areas in Haryana also experienced moderate rain. Kalka recorded 23 mm, Hissar 5.2 mm, Karnal 4 mm, Ambala and Rohtak 1.4 mm each and Panchkula one mm.

Many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Una, Sundernagar, Bhuntar, Rampur, Suni, Kassol, Kahu, Guler, Gamroor and Bharthin also experienced rainfall. Sujanpur Tira recorded 29.5 mm rain, Guler 24.5 mm, Bhang-Manali 12.8 mm, Nagrota Surian 12.0 mm and Solang Nullah 7.2 mm.

Moderate rain lashed Shimla and tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda last night. The capital town, which recorded 6.8 mm rainfall overnight, was again lashed by rain during the day.

The Met office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at most places in Himachal Pradesh and many places in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and north-east parts of Punjab and Haryana during the period.
