Two people die in Darjeeling, toy trains stalled
Siliguri, Aug 31: Two people died following landslides in several places of Darjeeling district while the Darjeeling bound 'toy train' was stalled near Kurseong.
Superintendent of Police Darjel Rajesh Subarno said Milan Tamang died in Dali and Sundar Chhetri died in Kalimpong last night.
The National Highway 55 was blocked for three hours yesterday, BRO officials said.
Panic spread after there was a landslide in front of the Darjeeling Raj Bhawan and Superintendent's office and their offices caved in slightly.
Chief Commercial Manager of Northeast Frontier Railways Taraknath Bhattacharya said the landslide occurred between Ghoom and Darjeeling, which affected the 'toy train' tracks.
He said two trains--Joyride and 2D--had been cancelled till the tracks were repaired. It would take at least ten hours to repair the tracks.
BRO officials said the roads are expected to be cleared by this evening.
