Tripura govt demand a satellite channel
Agartala, Aug 31 (UNI) Tripura government has urged the Centre for setting up a satellite channel of Doordarshan and a gas bottling plant in the state to meet its requirements.
State Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has demanded the centre for setting up of a satellite channel of Doordarshan proposed for the North East region in the state.
Referring to the news telecast from the local DD Kendra here, the Chief Minister said five minutes news bulletin both in Bengali and the local language Kokborok was insufficient and needed to be increased.
''The quality and quantitiy of the news telecast is very sub standard,'' said Mr Sarkar. He demanded to increase the news bulletin time from five minutes to ten minutes in the case of both the languages.
''The news should be telecast three times a day both in Bengali and Kokborok. The news which is telecast only once from the local channel could not fulfilled the aspirations of the mass people of the state,'' said Mr Sarkar.
Mr Sarkar expressed the hope that one of the proposed two satellite channels, would be se up in the state. ''The state government will definitely welcome the Centre's initiative if one of the two satellite channels is setup in the state,'' said the CM.
The Tripura government has also placed its demand for setting up of another gas bottling plant at Kumarghat, in Tripura's North District to meet the growing demands of the LPG supply.
At present there are two gas bottling plant in the state's West District situated in Bishalgarh and Mohanpur. The government also demanded to the centre for modernisation of the both existing plants.
Both the Bishalgarh and Mohanpur plants supply 80 to 85 per cent of the gas cyllinders in the state and the remaining have to be imported from Silchar in Southern Assam.
