Sensex up 30 pts in opening move

Mumbai, Aug 31: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened in the green by 30 points as the buying momentum continued in the blue chip stocks and also in the midcap and the smallcap scrips, which were up by 0.47 and 0.39 per cent respectively.

Currently, the Sensex is trading 40 points up at 11,764.70.

The key benchmark Asian indices in countries like Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea and Singapore too were up between 0.42-1.6 per cent as they regained their value.

Also, crude oil prices moved up after falling for the last few sessions. While the Nymex light crude oil for October delivery rose 32 cents to US dollar 70.03 a barrel, the London Brent crude was up 34 cents to USD 70.20 per barrel mark.

Amongst the BSE sectoral indices, Auto and Metal were down by 0.08 and 0.81 per cent respectively, whereas the gainers were led by IT, which was up by 0.64 per cent and followed by HC, which was up by 0.63 per cent, Bankex up by 0.61 per cent, and the Teck sector which was up by 0.47 per cent.

Major gainers on the BSE-30 Sensex were Cipla, HDFC, ONGC, TCS, HDFC Bank, Infosys, ICICI, Reliance Energy, ITC and L&T, all up by 0.61 per cent and 1.35 per cent.

Among the losers were Reliance Communications, HLL, Maruti Udyog, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Gujarat Ambuja, BHEL, Reliance Industries, and NTPC, all down by 0.08 to 1.12 per cent.
