Fashion Week: Rohit Bal skips press conference
New Delhi, Aug 31: Confusion and chaos prevailed at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week last night after star designer Rohit Bal kept the audience waiting for nearly an hour and later failing to turn up for the mandatory interaction with the media.
A packed audience of representatives from national and internation fashion houses and media organisations waited for 45 minutes before the flamboyant Bal began his ramp show, the last of the six fashion shows on the opening day.
After the show, Bal did not attend the press conference though journalists waited in vain for nearly half-an-hour. The media persons left the venue disappointed after the official said the designer would not be coming.
Bal, however, was later seen walking to join a party hosted by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the organiser of the prestigious event.
''I was relaxing,'' Bal said when asked why he did not show for the interaction, which is compulsory for all designers presenting their collections at the event. All other designers, except Bal, had followed the FDCI norm on the opening day.
When pointed out that he kept journalists waiting late in the night, Bal offered to speak to the media near a cramped entry to the party venue, only ending up creating a stampede-like situation forcing the security guards to lead him away before he could face the first question.
Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal made a cameo appearance at the Bal show drawing huge applause from the late night audience, most of whom were eagerly looking forward to the show by 'gudda' as the Delhi-based designer is known in the circuit.
Yesterday in a major glitch, lights went out during the Jattinn Kochhar show for a few seconds plunging the venue into darkness and inviting catcalls.
