Register case against ABVP leaders for Professor's murder: Court

Ujjain, Aug 31 (UNI) A local court today directed CID to register a case of murder against ABVP's Madhya Pradesh unit President Shashi Ranjan Singh Akela and its Organising Secretary Vimal Tomar in connection with the death of Professor H S Sabharwal during students violence at Madhav College here on August 26.

On the plea of the CID, which is investigating into Prof Sabharwal's death and related incidents, Judicial Magistrate R C Maria directed that a case under section 302 IPC be registered against both ABVP leaders.

Both Akela and Tomar, who surrendered at the Dewas Gate police station here yesterday, were remanded to judicial custody till September 7 yesterday itself.

The Judicial Magistrate today admitted the police plea to formally arrest them in the murder case.

A total of 23 Congress workers surrendered at the police station here yesterday and they were sent to judicial custody for vandalism in the college during Ujjain bandh on Monday.

Five other ABVP workers, who were arrested earlier in connection with blackening the face of another Professor M L Nath, were released on bail.

Following outcry that the BJP government was trying to save the guilty, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan ordered the C I D to probe the matter. The CID team, led by I G M P Dwivedi, is camping here.
