Present strain in India-Pak relations temporary: Mufti
Srinagar, Aug 31 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said the present strain in India-Pakistan relations was a temporary phase that would soon evaporate.
Launching the PDP's membership drive at a function here, he expressed optimism about the continuation of the ongoing peace process. ''The peace and reconciliation process is irreversible and the present strain in India-Pakistan relations is a temporary phase that will soon evaporate soon,'' Mr Sayeed said.
He said the process has the mandate of the people on both the sides and any movement that has public support was destined to reach its logical conclusion.
Enumerating the PDP's political agenda, Mr Sayeed said his party was for the political, economic and social empowerment of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The people have been going through difficult times for the past more than five decades, he added.
The former Chief Minister said this could be achieved only through a peaceful and honorable solution of the Kashmir issue.
''History has provided us with a golden opportunity to resolve the problems for good. God forbid, if wasted, there could be no end to the miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir besides India and Pakistan as well,'' he added.
Mr Sayeed asserted that the PDP's road-map offered the best possible way to resolve the problem amicably to the satisfaction of all the parties concerned.
He complimented the PDP leaders and workers for sacrificing their individual interests for larger political goal of the party which had became one of its great strengths.
''Within a short span, the party earned lot of goodwill and reputation among the masses. Today, the people of Jammu and Kashmir and across the sub-continent and opinion leaders across the world are taking the PDP's views very seriously,'' Mr Sayeed added.
He said every leader and worker of his party has a role in shaping up the future scenario of Jammu and Kashmir's political landscape and it does not matter whether he or she was holding any position in the government or not.
The PDP leader said the party has clearly cut out specific role for every leader and worker and at the right time the right person was assigned the right responsibility.
Mr Sayeed said the PDP leaders and workers have to play a crucial role in the forthcoming political events as the state was passing through a critical transitory phase that would culminate with a promising future.
In such a scenario, any position in the government was immaterial for them as they have a conviction and firm belief on the party agenda and its principles, and were tirelessly working towards its accomplishment for the past nine years, he added.
