Lt Gen Prakash Chaudhary takes over as NCC DG

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) Lt Gen Prakash S Chaudhary, a highly decorated Rajputana Rifles officer, took over as Director-General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) today.

He replaced Lt Gen M C Bhandari who retired from service.

Commissioned into Rajputana Rifles in 1968, Lt Gen Chaudhary has served as instructor both at the National Defence Academy as well as the Indian Military Academy.

He has also participated in counter-terrorism operations in the North-East, Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, an official spokesman said.

He has been awarded six times -- three times each by the President of India and the Chief of Army Staff -- for gallantry and distinguished service.
