'Lok Ayukta officials' land behind bars

Mangalore, Aug 31 (UNI) The Bunder Police here have arrested two persons who posed as Lok Ayukta officials and raided the house of a Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officer and looted Rs 12.5 lakh.

Police said the arrested - Kiran (33) and Nitish (30) - raided the official's house and demanded Rs 12.5 lakh to drop the ''complaint of disproportionate wealth accumulated by him''. The frightened official immediately paid up the amount.

However, when the official found from the Lok Ayukta that the duo did not work in the office, he lodged a complaint with the police, following which the arrests were effected yesterday.

While Kiran was running a garage in the city, Nitish was an agent for marketing second hand vehicles. The police were on the look out for a third person involved in the case.
