Latest version of Suse Linux Enterprise gets good response

Bangalore, Aug 31 (UNI) Novell today announced that its latest version of open enterprise platform, Suse Linux Enterprise 10, has evoked tremendous response from the user fraternity and is aggressively promoting the product in India to reach out to a wider audience, especially in the Small and Medium Business segment.

Mr Sandeep Menon, Director, Sales of Novell for Linux (West Asia), told UNI here that the platform, supporting five Indian languages of Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati and Marathi, would be taken to ten tier-II cities after the first round of road shows, which would end with Kolkata.

The product demonstrated here attracted a huge audience as the city housed the largest Linux User Group population in the country.

He said the product was the best engineered, low cost and most interoperable platform enterprise computing from desktop to data centre. Only Suse Linux Enterprise offered a complete open source platform for mission critical applications that drove customer's business.

Mr Menon said several State Governments and various Central Government departments, which had shied away from supporting the Linux movement due to initial security and support hesitancy, had now come forward to implement it in the e-governance initiatives.

Novell was working with ten State Governments, besides a host of Central Government establishments, he added.

On pricing, he said Novell had adopted a uniform pricing policy for the platform, unlike various other Linux products. The Linux Enterprise Desktop subscriptions would be available for Rs 6,625 for a three-year period.
