Husband who chained his wife for illicit relationship, held

Hyderabad, Aug 31 (UNI) A 40-year-old man was arrested today for chaining his wife and making her drink urine for three years after she protested against his affair with a woman tenant in their house in Jeedimetla area here, police said.

Shadul (40), a native of Maharashtra, who migrated to Hyderabad about two decades ago, also allegedly killed one of his daughters who threatened to reveal the matter to neighbours.

Asha Begum (35) was locked in a isolated room in the house in the Vithalbhai Patel Nagar and chains put on her legs three years ago when she protested at Shadul's affair with a woman tenant. When Asha cried for water, Shadul made her drink her urine and made her fast for many days. Their second daughter Reshma threatened her father that he would expose the matter to neighbours. For that it is alleged that Shadul throttled her to death. He told neighbours that Reshma had died in a wall collapse a year ago Sometimes the neighbours, who heard the screams of Asha, tried to enquire with Shadul. But Shadul convinced them that she had become mad after losing her second daughter Reshma. None dared to go into the house and check, the police added.

On Wednesday, Shadul went into the room of Asha to clean and failed to lock the chains and door properly. As a result Asha managed to come out and reach Jeedimetla police.
