Chandigarh, Aug 31 (UNI)The Punjab and Haryana High court today issued notice for September 7 to the Haryana government among others on an application seeking directions to stay the construction of the Hansi-Butana canal by the Haryana government.

The canal was proposed to be built by taking off water for the new channel from Bhakra Main Line(BML) canal at Azimpur in Kaithal district.

The order was passed by a Division bench of the acting Chief Justice Harjit Singh Bedi and Justice Ranjit Singh on the application filed by G S Punia and others.

It has been alleged by the petitioners that failure to construct a siphon has only heightened the threat of floods to village Bibipur and adjoining areas in Patiala district . As such, either the directions be issued to provide for the siphon or the construction of the canal should be stayed.

As the main petitions preferred in this regard are listed for September 7, the bench also decided to hear the present application along with the petitions on that day.
