Govt aid to construct 33 lakh flush latrines

Bhopal, Aug 31(UNI) The government will extend financial assistance to construct 33.11 lakh flush latrines for BPL families in Madhya Pradesh under the total sanitation programme.

The state government also increased the assistance to each BPL family for constructing flush latrines from Rs 625 to Rs 1500. A total of Rs 422.25 crore has been earmarked for this purpose, official sources said.

The sources said the PHE department had so far constructed 5.34 lakh flush latrines for BPL families and another 29,242 community sanitary centres in schools.

The Centre provides 70 percent assistance or Rs 14,000 as its share in constructing school latrines and 60 percent or Rs 900 for each BPL family for flush latrines.
