Four drown during Ganesh idol immersion

Jamshedpur, Aug 31 (UNI) Four people drowned in Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers during immersion of Ganesh idol here last night, police said today.

Police said the youth of Loco Colony went to immerse the idol at Kharkai river at Bistupur area when one Railway employee P Sridhar slipped into the river.

Seeing his friend was drowning Durga Prasad Rao and Bhaskar jumped into the river to rescue him, but all three were swept away by the strong current of the river which had swelled due to incessant rains.

In another incident a resident of Olidih area, also drowned in Subarnarekha river during immersion of Ganesh idol, police said.

The bodies were yet to be recovered, police said.
