Mumbai, Aug 31 (UNI) Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation (DFPCL) has commissioned its isopropyl alcohol (IPA) plant at Taloja in adjoining Thane district and commenced delivery of the product to its customers.

The Rs 154-crore plant has the capacity to produce 70,000 tonnes of IPA per year, the company said today. Current market size of the product in India is about 65,000 TPA and growth rates are about 6-7 per cent per annum, it said, adding DFPCL plans to begin export this financial year.

Speaking on the occasion, compnay Vice Chairman and Managing Director S C Mehta said '' Our strategy is three-pronged -- to maximize on our existing asset-base, expand using our core competencies and diversify into new sunrise sectors. We have already begun the process of maximisation through retrofits and are now awaiting liquified natural gas (LNG) from the Dahej-Uran pipeline.'' He said IPA will enter a ready 100 per cent import-substitute market and will synergistically utilise the company's marketing and distribution channel for methanol across fast-growing sectors like pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, organic chemicals, imaging chemicals and paints.
