Death toll rises to 36 in boat tragedy

Patna, Aug 31(UNI) At least 36 people were drowned when a boat ferrying sixty people capsized in the Ganga near Jafrabad Ghat in Bihar's Vaishali district today.

After returning from the scene, district magistrate Lalan Singh said the deceased included 10 women, six children and the rest were men.

He said the ill fated boat was ferrying some 60 people, of which 24 people swam to safety.

He said search for the bodies was on.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced an inquiry into the accident.
