CBI chargesheet in Krishnanad Rai murder case

New Delhi, Aug 31 (UNI) A supplementary chargesheet was filed in the designated CBI court at Lucknow today against Sanjay Maheshwari alias Jeeva of Muzaffarnagar in the Krishnanad Rai murder case, the CBI said here.

He has been charged for criminal conspiracy and murder of Rai, the then MLA of Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, an agency spokesman said.

The Court issued warrant for his production on September 15 from the district jail at Ghazipur where he is currently lodged in connection with the case.

Other accused involved in the case, Mukhtar Ansari and his brother Afzal Ansari, are already in judicial custody.

Two other accused, Munna Bajrangi and Ata-ur-Rehman, a relative of Mukhtar Ansari, are absconding. The CBI has declared a reward of Rs five lakh for information about them.

Mr Rai and seven of his associates were ambushed and killed by a gang when they were on their way from Siyadi to Kanuwan village in Uttar Pradesh on November 29, 2005.

Mukhtar Ansari and Afzal Ansari surrendered in the Ghazipur court last October. The CBI says Rai was killed as a result of political rivalry between him and Ansari.
