Brittania Engineering registers operating profit

Barrackpore, Aug 31: Brittania Engineering Limited has registered an operating profit of Rs 35.61 lakhs during 2005-06, company chairman Subhas Ranjan Basu said here today.

Speaking at a programme, Managing Director of the company Nirmal Kumar Dastidar said Britania Engineering would go for the second phase of restructuring and has targetted an annual profit of more than Rs one crore during the current financial year.

The company has targetted annual turnover of Rs 25 crore by next four years, he added.

He said the company had supplied road roller to different states, including Asom and Andaman&Nicobar last year.

Brittania has also planned to manufacture tractors through its product diversification scheme in near future, he said.

The company was acquired by the state government in 1986.

Britania Engineering, set up in 1917 by England's Meleod Company, manufactured jute machineries for a number of jute mills.

It went to liquidation and was closed for six years. The company was revived under restructuring package through DFID and currentrly manufacture road roller.
