Congress aligning secessionists conspiracy: BJP
New Delhi, Aug 31: The BJP today lashed out at the Congress for aligning with ''so called secessionists'' who were branding Vande Mataram as anti-religion and anti-Islam for the sake of vote bank politics.
BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi in a statement said it was unfortunate that a handful of secessionists were trampling and insulting the sentiments of crore of patriots in the country by opposing the singing of the national song on the pretext of religion.
He regretted that even a party like the Congress, which fought for the freedom of the country, had become victim of the separatist forces for the sake of votes.
Stating that the ongoing protests against singing ''Vande Mataram'' had links with Mohmmad Ali Jowhar who had opposed the the song the status of national anthem in 1923, Mr Naqvi regretted that even the Congress compromise proposal to make the first two stanzas of the national song as national anthem did not prevent the division of the nation in the name of religion.
''Today the same elements were denouncing the national song as anti-religion and anti Islamic. The nation should oppose this deep-rooted conspiracy as it is bent upon destroying the social fabric and implement the separatist agenda. The Congress is was colluding in the conspiracy of these elements for the sake of vote bank,'' he added.
He said those who are declaring fatwas should understand that in a secular country, they could not impose their will on the people and deny the nationalists from singing at public places.
They say singing of national song was not a proof of patriotism, but opposing the singing of this song which inspires the nation certainly was a proof of divisive tendency.
He said his party was undeterred about this perverse logic and would go ahead with its September 7 programme of singing the national song across the country in national capital, district and mandal headquarters to mark the centanary celebrations of the national song.
