Jammu, Aug 31: The Jammu and Kashmir BJP today criticised the National Conference (NC) leadership for waging a vicious campaign againt its top leadership in Kandahar plane hijacking episode and termed it as ''opportunistic politics.'' Reacting sharply on statements of NC's patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and its provincial president Ajay Sadhotra the BJP state president Dr Nirmal Singh told, just on the sidelines of a press conference here, that the party did the right thing in the Kandahar episode in view of the then prevailing circumstances and could save the precious lives of more than 170 people on board .

He said it is strange that Dr Abdullah is raking the issue in public now. Why he did not raise it publically at that time. It was just because his son Omar Farooq was in the Union cabinet at that time and enjoyed power in the NDA regime.

The BJP leader claimed it was the NC senior leader and ex-MLA Gul Rafiqi who took two militants in his car to Bagha and helped them cross over to Pakistan. He said everybody knows that Javed Ahmed Shah, a hardcore surrendered militant has been nominated Member of the Lagislative Council (MLC) by the NC.

Dr Nirmal said NC leaders should introspect first and then make accusation on the others.
