AP House adjourned sine die amidst protest
Hyderabad, Aug 31 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Assembly was adjourned sine die by Speaker K R Suresh Reddy this evening even as the opposition TDP staged a protest near his podium on the issue of land acquisition by the Government.
Dissatisified with the Government's reply to the lengthy debate on the acqusition of land for an eight-lane express highway in the city, the first of its kind in the country, TDP members trouped into the well of the House and shouted slogans demanding land for those displaced.
Even while rejecting the opposition's demand for a committee of floor leaders to protect the land meant for Pakistani repatriates and a probe by a sitting High Court judge or constitution of a House Committee into land acquisition, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy announced that his Government would come out with a new Relief and Rehabilitation policy drawing best features from the R and R policy of different states, shortly.
Admitting that minor problems would always be there when such a very big infrastructure project was taken up, Dr Reddy said his Government would redress all problems and also act on any irregularity as and when brought to its notice. The Government would strive to provide best compensation to the displaced people.
''We know our duties and limitations. People have reposed faith in all the elections in the last two years. We will not bely the hopes and aspirations of the people '', he assured the House.
Referring to evacuee property in the city, he said ''My Government will leave no stone unturned in protecting it''. He challenged Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu to implead himself in the case relating to the property meant for Pakistan expatriates, now now before the High Court.
