Anthrax detected in Kozhikode

Kozhikode, Aug 31 (UNI) Anthrax had been detected in this district of Kerala, District Animal Husbandary authorities today confirmed.

The disease was detected in a cow brought for slaughtering from Pollachi in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu and another cattle, which died of the same cause at Beypore today after laboratory tests, District Animal Husbandary Officer Mathew Jacob said.

The animals exhibited the acute form of the disease after being infected bacteria, leaving little time for treatment, he said.

Mr Jacob, however, said there was no need to panic as adequate vaccination was being administered among cattles in the detected areas at Mathottam and Beypore in the district.
