Amarinder skips Beant Singh's death anniversary events
Chandigarh/Ludhiana, Aug 31 (UNI) Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh today failed to attend the state level function in Payal near Ludhiana to commemorate the death anniversary of late chief minister Beant Singh.
Capt Singh, who flew to Delhi last evening after addressing a congregation at Bathinda, was also conspicuously absent at the 'samadhi' of the late Congress chief minister in Chandigarh for the 'sarva dharma' prayer meeting to mark the occasion.
Deputy Chief Minister Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and other ministers and Congresmen paid obeisance at the 'samadhi' of their departed leader, who was killed in a bomb blast in front of the Punjab Civil Secretariat on August 31, 1995.
Late Beant Singh's wife Jaswant Kaur and her family members, including her daughter and Punjab minister Gurkanwal Kaur and son Tej Parkash Singh, MLA, were also present at the prayer meeting at the Beant Singh Memorial in Chandigarh.
In Payal, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Samsher Singh Dullo, central Congress leaders Janardhan Dwivedi and Jagmeet Brar, Lok Sabha member and the chief minister's wife Preneet Kaur and the Punjab ministers led by Ms Bhattal addressed the massive rally at the state level function.
