Alstom Projects wins overseas Hydro Contract worth Rs 44 cr

Mumbai, Aug 31 (UNI) Alstom Projects India has bagged a prestigious eight million euro contract (Rs 44 crore) for the supply and erection of hydro-mechanical equipment for Nam Ngum 2 hydropower project in Lao, People's Democratic Republic (PDR), in South East Asia.

Announcing this to Bombay Stock Exchange, the company said that the contract was signed in Vientiane, capital of Lao (PDR) with the Ch. Kamchang (Lao) company, an EPC contractor and subsidiary of Ch. Kamchang public company ltd., one of the biggest construction companies in Thailand. The company has to complete the project in 43 months.

This is the second export order won by the company for hydro mechanical equipment, the first being the Gurara project in Nigeria. In both cases, the company is fully responsible from design upto site completion. The contract is a strong testimony of the company's technological capabilities to undertake major hydro-electric projects outside India.

Alstom is the world leader in Hydropower Equipment&Services and the company's Vadodara unit serves as one of its full capability major global hubs for hydro business.

The Nam Ngum project, funded by a number of commercial banks led by the Krung Thai Bank of Thailand, is located on Nam Ngum river in the south-east part of Lao PDR. The end customer for the project is South East Asia Energy.

Elektrowatt-Ekono is the Independent Engineer for the project.
