23-year old youth arrested for throwing acid on cop

Moga, Aug 31: Police arrested a 23-year old youth of Dharmakot after he allegedly threw acid on a policeman who tried to prevent him from committing suicide on Tuesday night, police said here.

According to details yesterday, Harnek Singh after an altercation with his parents, set his residence on fire and then attempted suicide by consuming acid. However head constable Ved Prakash on seeing smoke bellowing out of the house rushed to the spot and confronted the youth who had an acid bottle in his hand and was threatening to commit suicide.

On seeing the cop, Harnek threw acid on the head constable, who was rushed to the hospital with burn injuries. His condition was later said to be stable.

Harnek was arrested under sections 436, 309 and 506 of the IPC.
