1,416 lower primary schools in K'taka to be derecognised

Bangalore, Aug 31 (UNI) Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S Horatti today said his ministry has planned to derecognise atleast 1,416 lower primary schools for using English as the medium of instruction by violating the education policy norms.

Talking to reporters here today, he said the Ministry had issued notices to these schools for misusing the licenses, which they had got for teaching in Kannada.

Mr Horatti said 4,711 lower primary schools had taken permission for starting Kannada schools since 1994, but 1,416 of them had misused the permission and violated the language policy by shifting from Kannada medium to English. Most of the schools that had violated the education norms were located in Bangalore region.

The Minister said this year's Teachers' Day would be celebrated in Belgaum in a grand manner. Atleast 30 teachers would be awarded on the occasion, in which Governor T N Chaturvedi would take part.

He said the Government proposed to change the examination format for SSLC from this year.
