Sensex trips 13 pts in intra-noon trade

Mumbai, Aug 30: Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) went down 13 points in the intra-noon trade, tracking global cues and led by heavy selling in the midcap and smallcap scrips.

Earlier in the morning, it opened 29 points in the green.

In addition, the volatility caused on account of nervousness created by August derivatives contracts which is coming to an end tomorrow, has also affected the sentiment at the bourses.

Amongst the sectoral indices on BSE, Metals was down by 1.46 per cent to 8,283 points, Teck was down by 0.42 per cent to 2,859.36 points, Capital Goods by 0.14 per cent and the PSU sector by 0.13 per cent to 5,590.99 points.

Top gainers were HC up 0.32 per cent to 3,529.34 points and Auto sector up by 0.31 per cent to 4,986.33 points.

Major gainers on the BSE-30 index were Ranbaxy, Dr Reddy's Lab, HDFC, Tata Motors, Maruti Udyog, Hindustan Lever, Satyam Computers, Grasim Industries, SBI and Reliance Industries, all up between 0.39 and 1.69 per cent.

Besides, among the losers on the index were NTPC, Reliance Energy, Tata Steel, Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel, Hindalco, Bajaj Auto, Infosys Technologies Ltd, HDFC Bank and ONGC, all down between 0.26 to 1.73 per cent.
