BJP committee for Urdu translation of Vande Mataram
Kanpur, Aug 30: The BJP minority cell has constitued a committee for the translation of Vande Mataram into colloquial Hindi and Urdu.
Talking to sources here today, the minority cell national president Tanvir Haider Usmani lambasted those opposing the recital of the national song.
He announced that the BJP would organise functions from ward to the national level for the singing of Vande Mataram on September 7, to mark 100 years of the song.
''Vande Mataram is not a prayer and waxes eloquence on the motherland,'' Mr Usmani observed.
He said the national song is not an 'arti' nor is meant to be recited in front of an idol. ''Then, how can Vande Mataram be termed as worship.'' Mr Usmani called upon the ulemas to take to streets against terrorist strikes in Mumbai, Akshardham and Ayodhya at a time when the extremists were defaming Islam, rather than opposing the singing of Vande Mataram.
However, he maintained that none should question the integrity and patriotism of Muslims.
