Vande Mataram: Needless controversy evoked

Bangalore, Aug 29: Art of Living Foundation Founder Sri Sri Ravishankar today opined that a needless controversy was being created by vested interests against the recital of the national song 'Vande Mataram'.

Speaking to newspersons here, he said the recital of 'Vande Mataram' was not against the principle of any religion and young minds of the country should not be misled. He was ready to hold talks with Imam Bukhari and others, opposing the recital of the National song on the ground that it hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims in the country.

Strongly advocating the recital of 'Vande Mataram' by one and all, irrespective of religion, caste and creed, the spiritual leader urged the Union Government to make it mandatory to pay respect to the National song. During freedom struggle, the verses had the magic to bring together all freedom fighters against the colonial rulers.
