Violence mars Ganesh utsav in Vadodara, 4 held

Vadodara, Aug 28: Clashes broke out between two groups in the most sensitive Panigate area here last night over a Bollywood song being played during Ganesh procession.

The mob, damaged several roadside kiosk and vehicles. However, no one was injured in the incident.

The trouble began when a group of youths allegedly took exception to the song 'Sabse aage honge Hindustani' being played on the music system by the processionists, who were carrying the idol in a ceremonial procession to Ranavas for its installation.

After 20 minutes of intense stone throwing between members of the two groups, police rushed to the spot and pacified the mob.

Later, Panigatge police arrested four persons on the charges of rioting. Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop said all those involved in yesterday's violence would be booked and stern action taken against them.

A minor incident of stone throwing was also reported from the Bawamanpura. Police patroll in the entire walled city area was intensified after the incident.

Control Room sources said no further incident of violence has been reported from any part of the city.
