RHCPL forays into Mosquito Repellent market

New Delhi, Aug 28: Mosquito coils manufacturing major Rohini Home Care Products Ltd (RHCPL), has launched eco-friendly mosquito repellent coils for the first time under its own brand names 'Stellar' and 'Azaad' in the domestic market today.

Earlier, the company had been manufacturing these coils for major mosquito coil marketing companies in the country, including Rallis India, Shaw Wallace, Reckitt and Coleman and Jyothi Laboratories.

The product was soft launched in Delhi market, later to be introduced in entire country through its vast distribution network by the end of year.

RHCPL Managing Director R V Iyer said the company plans to introduce a whole range of mosquito repellent products in different fragrances in near future and will also introduce the mosquito repelling vapouriser and the aerosol cans, utilising the existing distributor network to reach out to the rural masses,'' he added.

RHCPL, a sister concern of Semio Chemicals, has developed its own eco-friendly formulation for manufacturing mosquito coils under in-house R&D system. It uses natural sandal wood dust instead of chemicals for prolonging the burning time of the coil.

Burning mosquito coils is a common practice in most of the homes in India. The smoke generated helps to control mosquitoes and many other diseases like dengue fever and malaria effectively.

R H CPL Director Nirmal Sarkar said the products would be priced at par with the other major brands available in the market.

''We are not playing the price game. After all we are using better eco friendly inputs which signifies quality,'' he said.

In India, the mosquito coil market is growing at a CAGR of 15 per cent and the total mosquito repellent market is estimated at Rs 1,600 crore.

Leading players such as Reckitt Benckiser, Godrej and Jyothy Laboratories are already present in the mosquito coils market with their brands such as Mortein, Good Night and Maxo in that order.
