Punjab to ban child labour from Oct 10
Chandigarh, Aug 28: The Punjab government, in keeping with the guidelines of the Central Government, would impose a complete ban on child labour with effect from October 10 this year.
Informing this here today, Labour and Employment Secretary S S Channy said that the notification dated July 10 in this regard, has already been issued by the Government of India. A time period of three months has been given to prohibit employment of children below the age of 14 years as domestic workers or servants in road-side eateries (dhabhas) restaurants, hotels, motels, tea shops, resorts, spas or other recreational centres, he added.
He also said that the action plan and the directions have been sent to all the district offices and departments concerned for strict compliance of the orders of the government. With these prohibitory orders, child labour could be eliminated from the state, said Mr Channy.
