Jawan killed in encounter

Imphal, Aug 28 (UNI) A jawan was killed in an encounter at Saiton, Bishenpur district last night.

Police said an encounter took place between troops of Jat Regiment and suspected Manipur based militants.

In the encounter Havildar Satish Kumar of Bullandhar, UP, got bullet injuries and died. The identities of those involved in the encounter was not ascertained yet. Police said inquiries were going on and senior police and army personnel today visited the spot. No arrests were made so far.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident a suspected militant was beaten to death at Yairipok Khoirom Leikai last night when he was coming to take money. The youth was identified as Md. Amzad Khan.

Locals assaulted him and later he succumbed to his injuries.
