'UPA allies yet to reach consensus on Telengana'
Kolkata, Aug 27: UPA allies are yet to reach a consensus about the demand for a separate Telengana state, Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee said here today.
Speaking at a programme here, the Minister said the Centre would take a decision on this issue later.
''We have asked all our UPA partners to send their opinion about creating a separate Telengana state. But our allies are yet to reach a consensus on this isuue, '' he said.
The proposal of creating a separate state could not fructify because all Left parties, including RSP, CPI, RSP and CPI(M) and Hyderabad-based TSR, opposed it, he added.
In 1956 a committee was set up by the Centre on Telengana followed by another in 2001 during the NDA rule, but both failed to reach a decision on the issue.
