Student Union leader arrested

Ujjain, MP, Aug 27 (UNI) A student leader was arrested on the charge of assaulting a professor and blackening his face over postponement of student unions election in the Government Madhav College, police said.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad worker Sudhir Yadav was arrested here today.

Senior Geography Professor Hemendranath, who was election officer for student unions election of the college, was attacked by students when he was leaving the college premises yesterday.

Five other accused were absconding.

Earlier, the district administration ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of Political Science Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal in the incident and sought a report within 15 days.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in Bhopal that the government has taken serious note of the matter and strict action will be taken against the guilty.

He described the allegations of police failure in the matter as baseless and said the government had directed the administration to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
