Prof Sabharwal's last rites performed

Ujjain, MP, Aug 27 (UNI) The mortal remains of Professor Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal was cremated at Chakratirath ghat on the banks of the holy Shipra river late afternoon in the presence of educationists and political leaders.

Prof Sabharwal of the local Government Madhav College's Political Science department was killed yesterday when he was attacked by students over postponement of student unions elections.

After protest by the Congress, police had got the post-mortem done by a panel of doctors.

Prof Sabharwal's family members reached here from New Delhi this morning.

Vice-Chancellor Ramrajesh Mishra, MLAs Shivnarayan Jagirdar, Prem Chand Guddu and Sajjan Singh Verma, former MLAs Batuk Shankar Joshi, Tulsi Silavat and Rajendra Bharti, state Congress General Secretary Manohar Bairagi and Madhav College Principal L N Verma along with his staff attended the funeral.

Police force was deployed during the funeral procession.

Earlier, the funeral procession proceeded to Gurudwara, where 'ardas (prayer)' was offered. At this juncture, Opposition leader Jamuna Devi and state Congress President Subhash Yadav paid floral tributes.

During the funeral procession, students paid tributes to the departed professor in front of the college.
