Police intensify security at railway stations

Jalandhar, Aug 27 (UNI) Punjab Police is taking all precautionary security measures in coordination with Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), following receipt of a threatening letter to blow up important railway stations, including Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ishwar Singh here today said that the security forces were already on alert and all precautionary measures were being ensured to provide security at railway stations.

He said that the police was also trying to trace the origin of the letters and the persons involved.

The letters were sent to two officials of the GRP and the RPF, threatening to blow railway stations on August 28, 2006.

Letters with similar threats, were also sent to railway station officials in Jalandhar and Phagwara a few months back.
