One killed in foiled robbery attempt

Mangaldai, Aug 27 (UNI) At least one robber was killed and another injured in a foiled robbery attempt in Gelabeel area, about 15 km from here, in the wee hours.

Police informed yesterday that the attempt was foiled by Orang Sub-inspector Deben Chandra Nath who was seated in the truck the robbers attacked.

A group of 10 robbers had stopped the truck on a bridge at about 0130 hours and demanded money from the driver and passengers.

Mr Nath, who was dressed in civilian clothes, refused to comply and was attacked with a dagger by the robbers.

However, the alert police officer shot back at the miscreant. In the shoot-out, one robber was killed and another injured.

The others managed to escape in the cover of darkness.
