Magisterial inquiry into Proffesor's death
Ujjain, MP, Aug 27 (UNI) A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into the death of a professor when students attacked him over the postponement of students union elections at the Government Madhav College here yesterday.
Collector Niraj Mandloi handed over the responsibility of the inquiry to Additional Collector Ravindra Singh and sought a report within 15 days.
The points in the inquiry includesd as to why Prof Harbhajan Singh Sabharwal was posted on election duty although he was suffering from heart disease and what caused his death.
Meanwhile, Prof Sabharwal's body was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem and last rites are expected to take place this evening.
The administration has made tight security arrangements as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, state Congress President Subhash Yadav and Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
She told reporters that the professor's death in college premises was akin to death in police custody given the presence of police in view of students elections.
Ms Devi alleged that Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) workers had beaten Prof Sabharwal leading to his death.
