Kolkata experiences heavy rain: Life paralysed

Kolkata, Aug 27 (UNI) Life was thrown out of gear as major parts of the city were submerged under knee deep water following heavy rains early this morning.

Bidhan Sarani, Belgachia, College street, Central Avenue and Amherst Steet in North Kolkata remained under waist deep water and forced people to remain indoors. Traffic was also suspended.

Rains also affectd life in Salt lake, the main hub of IT offices, and major parts of south Kolkata.

Many vehicles were seen stranded on roads and weekly markets could not be held due to the deluge.

Rain also afected movement of trains both in Howrah and Sealdah sections in the monring hours.

Weather office said about 16.6 mm rainfall was recorded in just two hours of showers in the city.

However, no report of any casualty had been reported so far.
