Hrishikesh Mukerjee is no more

Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) Legendary Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Hrishikesh Mukherjee today passed away at around 1640 hrs at the Leelavati Hospital here.

His son-in-law, Pradeep Bhattacharya told UNI that Hrishida was suffering from renal failure, a condition which got compounded on account of his old age.

The film-maker had been admitted to Leelavati for over two and half months now, and was undergoing dialysis. His son who is in the United States will be coming tomorrow. Until then Hrishida will be kept in the morgue and his last rites will be performed on Tuesday, Mr Bhattacharya added.

Hrishida was born in 1922. After coming to Mumbai, he began his cine career as an assistant to Bimal Roy. Working with superstars like Rajesh Khanna , Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Dharamendra, Sharmila Tagore, Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla among others, he bought their best to the fore.

He was known for making simple yet memorable films like ђBawarchiҒ, ђGolmalҒ, ђChupke ChupkeҒ, ђGuddiҒ,ҒAashirwadҒ, ђSatyakamҒ, ђMiliҒ, and ђAnandҒ just to name a few.

His last film was ђJhooth Bole Kavwa kateҒ starring Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla .
