Five bovine smugglers arrested, 56 animals seized

Jammu, Aug 27 (UNI) The Jammu police arrested 13 people including five smugglers and seized 56 animals including four cows, while the animals were taken for slaughter at Jagti Bantala link road in the early hours this morning.

Nagrota Station Head Officer told UNI that police, had on a tip off, set up barricades at Jagti Bantala link road and intercepted four trucks laden with the animals at around 0300hrs today.

Among the arrested persons, eight were drivers while five other were smugglers. Four of them have been indentified as Mehndi, Liyaqat, Farooq and Murad.

A case under Section 188 of RPC and Section 3 of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered.
