ASU surveys non-local population in Kohima

Kohima, Aug 27: Angami Students' Union (ASU), the apex student body of Angami tribe dominated Kohima district, has conducted a census on non-local population including the Government employees in Kohima, According to its survey, carried out between February 16 and May 20 this year, a total of 7340 non-local people reside in Kohima.

These include 392 government servants and 6948 other self-employed persons.

ASU's non-local convenor Sedeneikho Shosahie said that ASU registered all the non-locals within this period and issued registration cards to them. The survey was carried out in an effort to check alarming increase of illegal migrants in Kohima.

The non-government population include 3684 Hindus, 2460 Muslims, 461 Nepalis, 130 Tibetans and 213 others.
