WB Govt plans two SEZs in Haldia
Haldia, Aug 26 (UNI) The West Bengal government is planning to set up two Special Economic Zones(SEZs) in the industrial township of Haldia.
''One SEZ will be a chemical hub and another for multipurpose industries,'' Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said while speaking at the unveiling of the expansion plans of Mitshubishi Chemical Corporation(MCC).
Bhattacharjee said CESC would construct a power plant at Haldia to supply power to the industrial units in the area.
Commerce and Industries Minister Nirupam Sen said the IOC would be the anchor investor in the chemical hub project while the anchor developer for the project would be the Salim Group of Indonesia.
A modern township has also been planned at Haldia. The state government has identified 22,500 acres for the projects in the area, he said.
He urged the Haldia Development Authority to expedite development by setting up road, water and electricity connectivity in the region.
