Ten held for Basti violence
Basti, Aug 26 (UNI) At least ten persons were arrested for yesterday's violence in Hurraiya, which had left several people, including policemen injured.
SP (Basti) R P Chaturvedi said the ten were arrested for creating tension and indulging in violence here yesterday. Four police personnel and five others were seriously injured after agitated Hindu Yuva Vahini workers resorted to stone pelting over renovation of a school wall.
When their demands were not met, the unruly workers led by Hindu Yuva Vahini leader Dharmendra Singh reached the spot and staged a demonstration and attacked the police.
Police firing and brick batting left a Circle Officer, station in charge, two policemen and five others injured.
The mob also set afire several police jeeps and an Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus.
Hindu Vahini and Bhartiya Janata Party workers have, meanwhile, given a 'bandh' call today.
All educational institutions have been closed till August 28.
