Surjit Hockey Academy win Vohra Trophy

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) Surjit Hockey Academy of Jalandhar gained their sweet revenge as they defeated Maharaja Ranjit Singh Hockey Academy of Amritsar by 2-1 in the final of the fifth S N Vohra Memorial Sub-Junior Under-14 Hockey Tournament at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today.

MRS Academy had beaten Surjit Academy in the league phase of the tournament.

Both the teams were evenly matched and they had equal pportunities to score. However, it was Surjit Academy's day as they converted a penalty corner in the 50th minute through captain Prabdeep, who sounded the board with a clean direct hit to clinch the issue in favour of the Jalandhar team.

Earlier, Surjit Academy had taken the lead in the fifth minute as Gurpinder Singh scored a field goal while MRS Academy restored parity in the 24th minute when captain Ramandeep converted his team's second penalty corner.

Mandeep Singh of MRS Academy was declared the man of the match for his brilliant performance.

Harpreet of Surjit Academy was declared the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Lovedeep of MRS Academy was adjudged the best full-back and Harsimranjit of Baba Bakala was voted as the best half-back. The Best forward's award went to Prabdeep of Surjit Academy.

Additional Director General of Police Chandersekhar, who is also vice-president of the Indian Hockey Federation, distributed the prizes.
