Soz discusses water issues at World Water Week
New Delhi, Aug 26 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz held meetings with key institutions dealing with issues relating to water management and technology during his stay in Sweden.
The Minister who is attending the 16th World Water Week, discussed issues like water management, Earth Institute of Technology, waste water treatment plan in Stockholm and sustainable city project of Sweden and Upsala Unversity which hosts Department of Earth Sciences and Geological Institute of of great repute.
Prof Soz also solicited international support for granting UNESCO World Heritage status for Srinagar's Dal Lake which has been a point of tourist attraction for over two centuries. He said the lake was now shrinking for various reasons and India had provided funds to for conservation of the lake to the extent of 75 million rupees.
Stockholm Water Institute Executive Director Anders Berntel assured Prof Soz about support from his country and other Scandinavian countries for declaring lake as Heritate site.
