Pune wears festive look for Ganeshotsav

Pune, Aug 26 (UNI) Decorated saffron banners and lightings have been put up with sales of various offerings of Puja, banyan leaves, fruits, coconuts going up, as people are thronging markets to get ready to welcome the beloved elephant headed God of the Hindu Pantheon''Lord Ganesh'' for his ten day sojourn beginning tomorrow.

While most people and around 3000 odd Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals registered with the Charity Commissioner will bring their idols for installation tomorrow amid dhols, tashas, song and dance on the auspicious occasion of 'Ganesh Chaturthi', some cautious devotees were seen carrying their deity covered in white today itself to save themselves from traffic and crowded markets tomorrow.

Meanwhile, city police has beefed up security after home ministry alerted the state government of possible terror attacks during the ten-day festival. Police will be keeping a strict vigil on all the Sarvajanik Mandals to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Heavy bandobast has been made at all entry points in the city. The police will be enforcing the Supreme Court orders of not allowing loud speakers after 2200hrs.
