Moderate rain lashes region

Chandigarh, Aug 26 (UNI) Moderate rains lashed many areas in north-west India as monsoon remained active in Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours, triggering landslides in the hilly state.

Moderate rains lashed some areas in Punjab overnight with Nangal Dam site receiving 27.1 mm rainfall. Patiala recorded 13.1 mm and Ludhiana 0.5 mm rain respectively.

Certain areas in Haryana also experienced rain with Kalka recording 26 mm and Panchkula five mm.

Moderate to heavy rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, triggering fresh landslides in the state. Some areas in Una, Kangra and Mandi districts reported heavy rainfall. All rivers, including the Beas, Sutlej and the Ravi and rivulets in the state were in spate.

Bharthin was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording 73.6 mm rain till this morning, followed by Una measuring 71.0 mm, Kahu (53.0 mm), Kasol (51.3 mm), Guler (47.0 mm), Nagrota Surian (31.0 mm), Sujanpur Tira (21.5 mm), Pandoh (18.0 mm) and Sundernagar (17.9 mm), Naudan, Gamroor and Suni areas also experienced rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were lashed by moderate rainfall with the capital town recording 17.1 mm downpour till this morning.

Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist places of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, also had rainfall forcing tourists to stay indoors.

Moderate rain lashed Chandigarh and its adjoining areas last night, providing respite to people from humid weather conditions.

The city, which received 22.0 mm rain overnight, was again lashed by sharp showers today, causing water logging on the roads.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and north and north-eastern parts of Punjab and north-eastern parts of Haryana during the next 48 hours.
