Militant killed in ongoing encounter in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 26 (UNI) Army troops killed a militant in an encounter during search operation at village Wurposh here this evening.

An Army spokesman said troops of the 5 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) got a specific information that some militants were hiding in village Wurposh in Ganderbal area, about 25 km from here.

As soon as the troops sealed all exit points of the village and started search operation around 1800 hours, militants hiding there opened fire and hurled hand grenades.

The troops effectively retaliated and in the exchange of fire, one militant was killed in the encounter at 1900 hours.

The identity of the slain militant was yet to be known.

One assault rifle was also recovered from the slain militant, the spokesman said and added the encounter was still going on till the reports last came in.
